Mayor's Message

A happy new years greeting goes out to all our residents from city hall. I am looking forward to continuing to work, with my best efforts of service, with all our residents.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all our residents that have volunteered their service to our city by serving on the numerous committees this past year. These are those valuable volunteers that have given their time, talents, and wisdom in serving the city making it a better place to live. They include:

Planning Board: Rick Harbin, Cheryl Fulkerson, Donna Rogers, Daniel Watson, Roy Dol-bear, Jeff Toscano, and Paula Peplow

Zoning Commission: Rick Harbin, Jeff Toscano, Roy Dolbear, and Paula Peplow

Tree Board: Harry Cheff, Bill Neumiller, Duane Cole, Jackson Craig, Amanda McCarthy, Dan Rootes, Doug Goodheart, John Williams, Betty Jo Ellison, and Tana Pippin

Community Care Task Force: Robert Shy, Robin Shahan, Jim Atchison, Kelly Vjetasa, John Poole, Lloyd Gange, Betty Jo Ellison, Les Mahon, Tom Crippen, John Williams, Rick Harbin, and Don Tapp

City Hall Task Force: Carol Beery, Les Mahon, Amanda McCarthy, Betty Jo Ellison, Brad Purdon, Cheryl Fulkerson, Harry Cheff, Jim Atchison, John Williams, and Larry Reinlasoder

Recycling Committee: Don Bailey, Charlie Brown, Howard Vassau, Julie Korkow, Jim Atchison, Rick Harbin, John Williams, Chad Batey, John Bleth, and Seana Borsheim

Police Commission: Cheryl Fulkerson, Donna Tauscher, and Mike Ames

Colstrip Police Chaplains Group: Dennis Wenholz, Mike Andrews, Shawn McAlpine, and Jerry Bonnell

Without all these wonderful individuals we would not be able to achieve the many successful projects nor the level of services that are provided.

With the passing of two wonderful ladies this past year, it brings sadness but also appreciation. I would like to recognize and express my gratitude to the Ray and Mabel Loveridge and the Nolan and Dolly Fandrich families for the valuable and meaningful contribution these couples have made over many years to our community, making it a better place. Although they are no longer with us, their spirit and the love they shared with our community will always be remembered.

By the time this newsletter goes out, the city should have completed the Capital Improvements Plan for 2008 and our Comprehensive Growth Policy. We will have gone through the public hearing process and both of the plans will be placed on our web site. As a city, we are putting as much information as we can on our web site. It is our plan to keep the public as well informed as we possibly can. We continue to invite participation from the public either through committee involvement, hearing process, or other types of contact. I welcome your thoughts, comments, and ideas. My office is always open and I invite your participation.

The city’s web site address is: cityofcolstrip.com

Two large projects the city is looking toward this year is the construction of our city hall and our continued involvement and promotion of the Community Care Task Force. Both projects are important to our community and demonstrates the stabil-ity of a growing community.

This year of 2008 is also the tenth anniversary of the City of Colstrip. It was November 1998 that the residents voted over-whelmingly that we should become an incorporated city and become recognized with our own identity. Many projects have been completed and significant investments made into our infrastructure that would not have been possible without our city being incorporated. We plan on putting a list together later on this year to identify all the changes that have occurred over the past ten years as an incorporated city.
