When moving a mobile home onto a lot in Colstrip both a zoning permit and a building permit is required before a moving permit is issued. The total cost for these two permits is forty dollars.

The homeowner will be asked to complete a form called an Application for Building/Zoning Approval. This application asks that the homeowner look at his lot and determine the best possible way to orientate the mobile home on the lot to meet local district setback requirements and still allow for possible future expansion. The form asks for a diagram of the lot with the distance from each lot line to the mobile home clearly marked. When positioning the home please consider any plans for adding decks, porches or garages. These expansions must also meet the setback requirements for the neighborhood.

A description of how the mobile home will be set up will be necessary for the building permit. The building permit is to ensure that the mobile home is properly blocked or placed on a code compliant foundation. Please give us a call at 748-2300 two or three days in advance of the arrival of your trailer. That way a building inspector will be available to check the site for safety and code compliance.

The exception to this rule is for trailers being moved into the trailer court in the south end of Colstrip. Because of the size of the lots, trailers moved into this trailer court will only be required to complete a building permit that details proper blocking precautions to receive their moving permit. The fee for this permit is twenty five dollars. Trailers parked in the RV section of the court require no moving permit.
